How to sign up

We aim to provide convenient access to its services to all members of the community while balancing the strict need for privacy and security.

While many transactions do not require an Online Account there are some transactions where an online account is required before the transaction can be completed. On the Online Services homepage those transactions requiring an Online Account are shown with this Online account required symbol. The Online Account requirements for transactions are listed below:

Logging into your Online Account: If you have an existing Online Account or sign up for an Online Account you can still complete the transactions that don’t require an Online Account while logged in. Logging in or signing up will mean you don’t have to re-authenticate your customer details more than once if you are undertaking multiple transactions during the same visit.

You can also update your email address, mobile number, password and secret question & answer by logging into your account.

Signing up for an Online Account will also provide you, if you are the registered operator of a motor vehicle, with the option of receiving SMS and email reminders about the due date of your vehicle’s registration.

Sign up via Online Services

To sign up for your account online, you will need to verify your identity in one of the following ways:

  • You will have a NSW Driver Licence or NSW Photo Card
  • You will have a registered vehicle in your name with us.

If you do not have this information with you, you can still use this website to sign up, and a temporary password will be sent to you.

The first time you access your account, you can select a new password for easy access each time you visit. You can also set a secret question and answer, in case you need a reminder in future.

Please note: If you do not have a vehicle registered in your name with us, you will need to call the contact centre on 13 22 13 to finalise your account sign up.

Sign up online

Sign up via phone or at a motor registry

To set up your online account via telephone or in person at a motor registry, you must hold a NSW Photo Card or NSW Driver Licence.

To verify your identity, our team will ask you to answer a series of questions.

You will receive an email with a system generated password. You can then go online to update your account details, select a new password and set a secret question to finalise your account online.

  • Sold your car recently?

    The seller must have a NSW licence number. The buyer must have either a NSW licence number or a NSW Motor dealer licence number.
